Dear Mr Peterson,
Thank you for your enquiry regarding medical certificate renewal during overseas absence.
Under [E1] CASR Part 67, your Class 1 medical certificate must be renewed before expiry to maintain flight crew privileges. However, there are several options available in your situation:
Overseas Medical Examination: You may obtain a medical examination from a UK CAA-authorised medical examiner. Under [E2] mutual recognition arrangements, CASA can accept examinations conducted by recognised foreign authorities, subject to completing the required CASA forms.
Grace Period: Per [E3] CASR 67.265, if your medical certificate expires while you hold a valid pilot licence, you are not permitted to exercise pilot privileges until renewal is complete. There is no automatic grace period for Class 1 certificates.
Required Documentation: Upon return, you will need to provide [E4]:
โข Completed CASA Form 160
โข UK CAA medical examination report (if conducted overseas)
โข Evidence of continuous fitness (medical records)
I recommend contacting our Medical Certification team on 131 757 for expedited processing.
Kind regards,
